JKP has been awarded the first prize at the international competition for Qianhai Huaqiang Group Headquarter. The site is adjacent to an area of urban green belt, and is connected to its surrounds with multiple elevated walkways. The height limit for high rises in this region is 180m, with a maximum podium height of 18m. As the architectural form grows vertically it steps back, creating a range of different sized green terraces at various heights across the building. These provide an opportunity to extend the city’s green corridor through the development.
The building is divided into two parts, east and west. These volumes are pushed and pulled north and south, opening up to multiple connections such as the raised walkways and underground traffic system, creating a system of Urban Symbiosis that allow the building to have a greater dialogue with its surroundings through an increase in spatial connections.
The podium volume is cut out along its central axis to allow for greater amounts of sunlight and natural ventilation to reach the commercial regions. The towers facade is set back along the same axis, with multiple sky gardens branching out from this central recesses, providing a variety of opportunities of external views. In accordance with its volume, the building’ central core is divided into two parts. These are offset to the west, allowing the east side of the development to maximize the available area with views facing the green belt.
By combining these elements, we get the final concept – a Vertical stacking city. The building subverts the traditional proposal of an enclosed high rise, and combines with the existing environment of the city to create a business and social atmosphere that is more suited to an innovative, modern urban development.
This proposal fully meets the frameworks and parameters of the future envisioned by Qianhai CBD. The architectural concept provides a design which is based on decisive ideas: an economical, ecological and socially sustainable building design based on basic, highly efficient structures. These provide an open urban approach to what will become a new landmark development, offering high quality public spaces which are thoroughly integrated with the given masterplan.
