Located east of the existing protectorate buildings, this expansion consisting of a new building will be completed in two phases spanning several years.
The project design fulfills the missing functions of the existing buildings and is restricted in height to 87 meters. Directly adjacent to the site sits the Zhongmin Square building, whose dominant front facade and large scale visually dominates and influences the surroundings. Creating views for the new building and relating to the volume of the existing tower where some of the design challenges.
The phase 1 building, with a prescribed stone facade, is placed at the northeast corner and consists of hotel, conference hall, archival space, executive offices, gym and canteen. The phase 2 building forms a ‘T’ shape with phase 1 that maximizes views to the southeast. A shared core connects phase 1 and 2, realizing an efficient use of shared resources while providing necessary security and privacy controls. A consistency with the landscape belt from adjacent buildings will be reinforced. The court’s solemn image of justice and fairness is embodied in the diagrid steel structure.
