The Neumarkt area is the central part of the new city urban planning since the early 90s and the project takes an importnant part in it. The market plaza in city has a vibrant historic atmosphere due to the presence of Galeria Kaufhof – municipal building which appears as a mixtures of Jugendstil, Gothic and German Renaissance and on the other side Galerie Roter Turm with its Venetian style facade. The design for Peek & Cloppenburg department store, a building with a complete glass façade complimates and completes this ansamble of buildings in the heart of the city. One of the most important character of the department store is its grand entance – a 3 storey high atria that creates a dynamic and stimulating interior that provides shelter from the external environment while maintaining a visual link with the outside. The curvature of the roof gives a remarkable character to the building that only enrich the variety of the area and as a contrast to the surrounding buildings it boosts their importance and highlight their unique characteristics.
